What an AI receptionist actually does
"AI automation" means very little until you see what it replaces. For a small business, it usually means one thing: whoever answers the phone when you cannot.
An AI receptionist is a system that answers your calls and messages the way a good front-desk person would: it knows your prices, your hours and your diary, and it uses them to give a real answer rather than a generic one. It is not a chatbot bolted onto a website that customers have to go looking for. It runs on the number and the channels a customer already uses to reach you.
The difference from an answering machine is that it has a conversation. A missed call gets a text back within seconds, asking what they need. A question about opening hours or price gets answered from what you actually charge, not a guess. A booking gets checked against your real diary and confirmed there and then, not "someone will call you back."
It is built once, around your business specifically: your services, your prices, your working hours, the questions your customers actually ask. That is the part that takes the two weeks to build. After that, it runs on its own, and only reaches you when something is outside what it was told to handle.
What it is not: it does not guess at a price it was not given, it does not book a slot that does not exist in your diary, and it does not pretend to be a person if asked directly. Anything it cannot answer honestly, it hands to you with the conversation attached.
Tell me what you are losing.
Thirty minutes on a call. I will tell you what we would build, and honestly whether it is worth it.
